Husqvarna CR 400 1969 MG 3056

Just a quick test start, a bit loud for the neighbors. I later did a short test drive and I must say I was surprised, the whole bike felt quite modern. Light, crisp power, great clutch and shifting was good, however a bit strange being on the right (wrong) side. Jetting felt a bit lean so I will order some new jets and work on that later on, but for now I am pleased.
Enjoy some pics from a sunny spring day in Sweden.

Exhausts part III

Exhaust painted and fitted.

Now all this bike need is some premix gasoline and hopefully there will be some ring-ding..

The observant reader might notice that the seat is missing. I decided to replace the seat cover on this bike too. Seat base is also going to be replated, more on that later.

Other than the seat the bike is ready for start.

The Husky lifeblood.

Filled both engines with oil today, hopfully there wont be any big puddles of oil on the floor tomorrow...

Motuls finest transmission oil, for wet clutches.
The day of first startup is getting closer.

Exhaust part II, Small progress

Front and rear brackets welded and new end pipe fitted.

Not sure about the lenght of the pipe, it varies on all pictures I find of these bikes. I belive the 1969 model has a longer pipe than the 1970 model, anyway it is a simple task to shorten it if I want too.

Exhausts part 1

These exhausts were ín tragic condition. Rusted, bent, broken, cracked, dented you name it.
I have sandblasted them and welded all the holes and cracks. When all brackets are in place I will grind down the most obvious welds and maybe sandblast them again before paint.

I had to cut out some of the worst dents and straighten the metal, then weld it back in.

New brackets

First test in order to mark were I will weld the new brackets.

Looks a bit like an old machine gun

Clearence to front fender is marginal.

I dont know how long my new seat will hold up against the heat, or my leg for that matter...

The final decision?

As for now I have decided not use my desert master tank. Personally I think it looks great,  just a bit too big on the bike. And it wont fit without some modification due to its lenght.
